Carolina Lily

Underground bulb that sends out an erect stem with whorled leaves that is topped with showy flowers. The flowers are drooping and inverted with orangish-yellow petals and brown spots.  The petals open and curl backwards to reveal large stamens. This plant can take up to seven years to reach maturity and flower!  Thrives in well drained upland forests with mottled shade.
