Basal rosette of low-growing dark green leaves produces a tall, thick stem with whorled leaves topped with brilliant red flowers. The flowers are clustered at the top of the stalk and have an almost iridescent quality to the deep red shade of the drooping petaled blooms. Prefers moist, rich soil and filtered light or morning sun. Pollinated by hummingbirds and larger yellow sulphur butterflies.
